“Hating Yourself is the Greatest Love of All…”

That’s the answer Bill Maher gave Larry King this week when asked “why would someone who is gay take public, anti-gay positions? Why would you do that?”. They were talking, of course, about self-loathing Republican dicks like Mark Foley, Ted Haggard and — boy, no surprise here — outgoing Republican National Committee chairthing Ken Mehlman. Of course, you’ll never see that exchange on CNN again, since it was edited out of subsequent broadcasts (and even that show’s transcript). Through the miracle of YouTube, however, you are there:

BM: A lot of the chiefs of staff, the people who really run the underpinnings of the Republican Party, are gay. I don’t want to mention names, but I will Friday night…

LK: You will Friday night?

BM: Well, there’s a couple of big people who I think everyone in Washington knows who run the Republican…

LK: You will name them?

BM: Well, I wouldn’t be the first. I’d get sued if I was the first. Ken Mehlman. Ok, there’s one I think people have talked about. I don’t think he’s denied it when he’s been, people have suggested, he doesn’t say…

LK: I never heard that. I’m walking around in a fog. I never…Ken Mehlman? I never heard that. But the question is…

BM: Maybe you don’t go to the same bathhouse I do, Larry.

(Maher did not out any Republican closet-cases on his Friday night Real Time episode. And YouTube has been asked to take the video down, hence the transcript above.)

So, now that Bill Maher’s outed Mehlman, the architect of some of the scummiest, most odious election campaign tactics ever devised (including cementing homophobia as a staple in the GOP arsenal), can we freely make fun of the fact that every second photo returned by Google Image features some truly iconic cocksucker lips?

Ken Mehlman's cocksucker lips
Ken Mehlman and, duh, a closet.

Who’s next? Rove?

It’s too late to say “don’t read this, Mom”, isn’t it?

I know that there’s a debate within and without the community about outing these jokers, but I say go for it! They have used their power to destroy so many lives while hiding who they are from themselves and the public. That kind of hypocrisy is annoying enough but there is a more insidious evil at play imho:

The Haggarts, Foleys and Melmans of the world by being in the closet, by publicly decrying the their private selves manage to put forth, even when outed, the fiction that being gay is so dark, so evil so depraved that it must be hidden from sight. It also gives them liscence to practice sexual behaviors that tend to be unhealthy, explotative and dark not because they may or may not involve gay sex, but because they are acting out some sick fantasy of what non sanctioned by the right sexual behaviour is . So when finally outed, as ineffectual as their political shit might become, they still get to infect the country with thescary steroetypes of the evils of gay sex.

Their homosexuality has nothing to do with the state they find themselves in or the actions they choose to take. They may be self hating, but I think the reality is that they are sociopaths who do what they want because they are the only ones who matter and to hell with the rest of the world.

Not that I have any strong feelings on the subject…

Thank God for YouTube. I didn’t realize when I watched it that it was such a big deal but I guess the CNN lawyers got busy after the live broadcast. On one side, Larry King digging for surprising revelations from his guest, on the other side network suits who don’t want anybody to be surprised. Silly.

I don’t think they should be outed just because they are homosexuals. Perhaps because they are hypocrites, though…
