Big ‘IN’, Japan

Big In Japan

There’s something vaguely dispiriting on returning from the ordered, polite, superefficient, expansive, spectacular, friendly and integrated society of Tokyo… to Newark’s Liberty International Airport, with its untidy, unfit, loud, obnoxious, over-entitled, rude people and wildly inefficient systems… eventually winding up recombining with Toronto’s multicultural untidy, unfit, loud, obnoxious, over-entitled, rude people and wildly inefficient systems.

It’s actually a culture shock much more abrupt and disconcerting than that experienced traveling in the other direction. There’s jet lag and then there’s world lag. Oh, hell, I dunno, maybe I was just drinking too much Depresso in Tokyo…

My least favourite drink in Japan was Pokari Sweat… not as refreshing as I thought!

There was an article in Japanzine last month about Deepresso and other bad brews: http://www.seekjapan.jp/article-1/836/Bad+Brews
